Medical Weight Loss

If you decide to lose weight without surgery, you'll find many options at the New England Weight Management Institute (NEWMI) at CMC.

NEWMI’s medical weight loss program team is led by physicians board-certified in Obesity Medicine. We use evidence-based non-surgical treatment to help our patients achieve a healthier weight. The comprehensive program includes nutritional, exercise, and behavioral counseling. When appropriate, treatment may include medications that can help with weight loss. We also screen for and address lifestyle factors, medical conditions and medications that can contribute to weight gain.

Our team strives to take an individualized approach, creating a plan for you that is sustainable and effective for long-term weight loss and health.

Your body mass index (BMI) is a ratio of height to weight and is used as a screening tool for overweight or obesity. Your BMI is not the only factor used to measure obesity, however, it is the first step toward determining what weight loss treatment you will best benefit from.

Your BMI & What it means

  • BMI of 30-34 is considered obese
  • BMI over 35 may benefit from both medical and/or surgical weight management
