For nearly 50 years, Catholic Medical Center (CMC) has proudly served our communities with a commitment to delivering the highest quality and most advanced healthcare. Now, we are looking smartly to the future to best position ourselves in today’s ever-changing healthcare marketplace.

We are pleased to announce that CMC has signed a non-binding letter of intent to explore a potential partnership with HCA Healthcare. The two organizations will begin exclusive discussions as they evaluate a potential agreement where CMC would join HCA Healthcare. Our proposed partnership includes HCA’s commitment to continue operating CMC’s facilities in a manner consistent with our mission to care carry out Christ’s healing ministry.

Together CMC and HCA Healthcare intend to:
  • Maintain CMC’s Catholic identity and provide care in accordance with the Ethical and Religious Directives for Catholic Health Care Services (ERDs),
  • Create a non-profit foundation to carry on CMC’s commitment to serve the needs of our community for generations to come,
  • Preserve and enhance access to high-quality patient care and meet the growing demand for healthcare services in New Hampshire,
  • Continue a legacy of providing charity care to improve health equity in New Hampshire, 
  • Provide CMC access to HCA Healthcare capabilities, scale and resources focused on delivering high-quality patient care,
  • Support CMC’s existing workforce with job training, education opportunities and industry leading technology,
  • Enhance the immediate and long-term financial viability of CMC.  

What This Means for Patients 

The long-term health and wellbeing of our communities remains our top priority and the driving factor in our decision to partner with HCA Healthcare. Our proposed partnership would enable Catholic Medical Center to expand access to high-quality care for individuals and families and help us meet the growing demand for healthcare services in New Hampshire.

As of today, nothing changes in the day-to-day operations of CMC or how CMC patients will receive their care. The excellent healthcare patients receive will continue, and CMC will remain focused on delivering on its mission and its commitment to providing exceptional care to all those it serves today and in the future.

This is part of CMC’s ongoing strategic planning to determine how best to meet the increasing healthcare needs of Manchester and the surrounding region. To remain the vibrant community partner we are today, we must look smartly toward the future to ensure we are best positioning ourselves to succeed in today’s ever-changing healthcare marketplace. 
Why HCA Healthcare?
CMC has been on a journey to identify a partner that will, first and foremost, support our mission of health, healing and hope and embrace who we are as a Catholic healthcare system. HCA Healthcare’s commitment to utilizing their financial and operational resources to strengthen CMC and our workforce make them an ideal partner to guide us into our next chapter.
 
Will CMC still be Catholic after this deal is complete?
Yes. As part of HCA Healthcare, CMC will retain its Catholic identity. We will continue to operate in accordance with Catholic moral teachings and with our mission to carry out Christ’s healing ministry. We will remain a member of the Catholic Health Association. 

Our proposed partnership includes HCA Healthcare’s commitment to operating CMC’s facilities in a manner consistent with our mission to carry out Christ’s healing ministry. Our services will not change and will continue to reflect the Ethical and Religious Directives for Catholic Healthcare Services (also known as ERDs).
 
How will this impact patients and the community?
The long-term health and wellbeing of our communities remains our top priority and the driving factor in our decision to partner with HCA Healthcare. Our proposed partnership would enable CMC to expand access to high-quality care for individuals and families and help us meet the growing demand for healthcare services in New Hampshire. 

Our proposed partnership would maintain and enhance the richness of Catholic spiritual life within CMC and the community it serves, including the creation of a Catholic foundation, which will be funded with the proceeds from the transaction.
 
While this is an important milestone for the community and CMC, nothing will change in the day-to-day operations of CMC or how CMC patients receive their care during the due diligence period.
How will this impact services?
Nothing will change in the day-to-day operations of CMC or how CMC patients receive their care during the due diligence period.
 
Will this affect which insurance CMC accepts?
Nothing changes today, including the insurance plans CMC accepts. Patients will continue to have access to their current in-network providers without any disruption. As this process continues, we will continue to keep our staff, our patients and our communities apprised of developments.
What happens next?
The non-binding LOI is the first step in a well-defined and lengthy process that involves further due diligence, negotiation of final terms, and approvals. In the meantime, CMC will remain focused on delivering on its mission and its commitment to provide exceptional care to all those it serves today and in the future.
