State-of-the-Art Surgical SuitesIMG_2331.jpg

The Surgery Department at CMC includes 10 state-of-the-art surgical suites: eight for general surgery and two for cardiac surgery. The addition of a hybrid operating room in 2012 combines the traditional operating room with the best imaging and cardiac catheterization equipment. The inclusion of multiple technologies in the same operating room fosters innovative surgical approaches that can improve patient outcomes.

Our Hybrid Operating Room can be used either for minimal invasive or open surgery. Through real-time imaging a patient’s anatomy can be evaluated as necessary during the surgical procedure. The “hybrid” concept comes from the combination of an operating room and an interventional suite. By combining the two, excellent imaging and catheter intervention can be performed. The Hybrid-OR also has the ability to be utilized by an interdisciplinary team leading to increased flexibility and efficiency of workflow.

At Catholic Medical Center, we are dedicated to delivering the highest standards of care to meet all your surgical needs.

Minimally Invasive Surgical Techniques

Most procedures are performed through minimally invasive techniques when this is most appropriate for the patient. CMC was one of the first hospitals in the country to utilize minimally invasive robot-assisted surgery techniques using the da Vinci® Intuitive Surgical Robotics System and now has two of these robots. CMC surgeons have performed more than 2,000 robot-assisted surgical procedures. CMC was the first hospital in southern New Hampshire to have an O-arm system. Minimally invasive surgical procedures include: robotics-general surgery; urology; prostate; gynecology; bariatric; endovascular laparoscopic procedures; spine; cosmetic reconstruction; arthroscopies of knees, shoulders, wrists and ankles, and hip replacement-anterior approach

Outpatient Surgical Care

For outpatients who need or wish to use an ambulatory surgery center for insurance reasons, please note that CMC has a partnership with the Bedford Ambulatory Surgery Center (BASC). Complex surgery will be performed at CMC while outpatients may have procedures at either BASC or CMC.

Designed to meet patient and family needs

CMC’s surgical suites are in close proximity to the Emergency Department, Intensive Care Unit and heliport for emergent situations. If you are having surgery, you are escorted to a pre-operative ambulatory area and your family may join you here prior to surgery. Recovery from surgery takes place in a post-operative care area. A family waiting room has a quiet area and another area with a television, both with wireless Internet service. A private consultation room allows physicians to talk to families privately following surgery.
