NH Hospital Association Honors Dr. William Goodman of Catholic Medical Center for Outstanding Service in Health Care

(From the NH Hospital Association/ September 22, 2016) - The New Hampshire Hospital Association (NHHA) recently honored William Goodman, MD, of Catholic Medical Center with the 2016 Medical Staff of the Year Award during the association’s Annual Meeting at the Omni Mount Washington Resort in Bretton Woods.

The Medical Staff Award is an honor bestowed upon a medical staff member from a New Hampshire hospital who devotes him - or herself to excellence in health care.

Dr. Goodman was nominated for his commitment to responding to the threat of the opioid crisis in New Hampshire, both internally at his organization where he leads the hospital system’s response, and externally through community partnerships and outreach.

“Dr. Goodman has been transformative in his hospital’s commitment to stemming the opioid crisis not only in the City of Manchester, but the State of New Hampshire as well, and is extremely well-deserving of this award,” said NHHA President Steve Ahnen.

In his role as Chief Medical Officer and Vice President of Medical Affairs, he has taken a number of steps to make sure the hospital’s medical staff is equipped to address the opioid crisis head-on, including embedding the Prescription Drug Monitoring Program into the hospital’s EMR to help identify patient prescription patterns that might indicate an addition; informing patients of the hospital’s pain treatment policy; increasing provider education on substance misuse; and organizing a continuing medical education program that evolved into the first Governor’s Summit on Substance Misuse.

“Bill Goodman has led from the beginning on the opiate crisis and in so many other areas at CMC and in the community,” stated Joe Pepe, MD, President & CEO of Catholic Medical Center. “His talent and his passion are exemplary and we’re thrilled that the NH Hospital Association has recognized these qualities.”
