CMC Earns ‘Top Performer on Key Quality Measures®, Recognition from The Joint Commission in Four Areas

Nov 13, 2014—Catholic Medical Center has been recognized as a 2013 Top Performer on Key Quality Measures® by The Joint Commission, the leading accreditor of health care organizations in the United States. Catholic Medical Center surpassed stringent guidelines for quality and safety in 2013 in its treatment of heart attacks, heart failure, pneumonia and surgical care.

“People put their lives in our hands every day and we take that responsibility very seriously,” said Joseph Pepe, MD, president/chief executive officer, Catholic Medical Center. “This award recognizes that we always rely on best practices in caring for patients because they improve patient safety and clinical outcomes.”

The Top Performer program recognizes hospitals for improving performance on evidence-based interventions that increase the chances of healthy outcomes for patients with certain conditions, including heart attack, heart failure, pneumonia and surgical care.

This is the third year Catholic Medical Center has been recognized as a Top Performer. It was also recognized in 2011 and 2012 for its performance on accountability measures for heart attack, heart failure, pneumonia and surgical care. Catholic Medical Center is one of only 314 hospitals nationwide to achieve the Top Performer distinction for the past three consecutive years.

To be a 2013 Top Performer, hospitals had to meet three performance criteria based on 2013 accountability measure data.

“Delivering the right treatment in the right way at the right time is a cornerstone of high-quality health care. I commend the efforts of Catholic Medical Center for their excellent performance on the use of evidence-based interventions,” said Mark R. Chassin, MD, FACP, MPP, MPH, president and CEO, The Joint Commission.

Catholic Medical Center, which also operates the New England Heart and Vascular Institute, 11 primary care practices, transfer center, breast care center and an urgent care center, has established a mission to provide the right care and experience for every patient and visitor, every time.

“We understand what matters most to patients is the quality and safety of the care they receive. That is why we have made it a top priority to improve positive patient outcomes through evidence-based care processes,” said Pepe. “The Top Performer award recognizes the knowledge, teamwork and dedication of our entire hospital staff.”
