Cardiovascular Surgery Leaders in Cardiovascular Surgery
If you need a cardiovascular surgical procedure, you can access the most advanced cardiac and vascular surgical care in northern New England at Cardiothoracic Surgical Associates at Catholic Medical Center. This group of board-certified surgeons — with board certifications in general, cardiac, thoracic and vascular surgery — has a 3-Star designation by the Society of Thoracic Surgeons
, a distinction earned by only the top 11% of cardiac surgery centers
in the U.S.
With surgery, practice makes perfect. Our cardiovascular surgeons have each performed more than 3,000 heart surgeries. They are at the leading edge in cardiac surgery, performing the first beating heart surgery in northern New England
in 1996 and the first left ventricular assist device (mechanical heart) surgery in New Hampshire
in 2011. Now, Catholic Medical Center is one of the busiest beating heart surgery centers in New England, with more than 90 percent of all heart bypass surgeries performed on a patient’s beating heart, without putting the patient on a heart-lung machine. Beating heart surgery can lead to lower risk of heart attack and stroke for patients. Detailed, Evidence-Based Plan for Care
If your primary care physician or cardiologist feels that you may need open-heart surgery, you will undergo an evaluation when you visit our group and may be referred for diagnostic testing. After a careful assessment of your condition and consultation with referring physicians, we fully explain your heart condition and answer your questions. We explain our proposed plan for care in detail with you and your family, to ease anxiety, increase understanding and instill confidence. Communication among those involved in your care is necessary to produce a successful outcome, and personal attention is a hallmark of the care we provide. Highly Experienced Surgical Care Team
Our cardiovascular surgeons work together closely as a team. As a patient, you are evaluated on an individual basis and benefit from an extensive and highly experienced pool of talent, including cardiac anesthesiologists, cardiologists and nurse practitioners. All three of the surgeons are involved with your care and are in constant communication with one another and your referring physicians, resulting in a cohesive and systematic plan for care.
The surgeons are all thoroughly trained and experienced in the surgical treatment of congenital and acquired adult conditions of the heart. In addition, they are trained to diagnose and treat surgical conditions of the chest, lungs, esophagus, and major blood vessels of the body. They have expertise in cancerous as well as non-cancerous conditions of the chest and are trained to deal with life-threatening chest injuries. Hybrid Operating Room Advances Care
The addition of a Hybrid Operating Room in 2012 enables New England Heart Institute interventional cardiologists to perform a catheter-based intervention in a surgical setting and for one of the cardiac surgeons to step in immediately if heart surgery is needed. The Hybrid Operating Room also allows the cardiovascular surgeons to perform combined procedures that result in less operating time and less trauma for patients. Conveniently Located at CMC
