Cholesterol Management

Advanced Treatment of Cholesterol Issues

The Cholesterol Management Center at the New England Heart & Vascular Institute is the first clinic of its kind in New Hampshire dedicated to helping people of all ages reduce their cholesterol and risk of heart disease.

The center is under the direction of Peter Klementowicz, MD, FACC and Jonathan Eddinger, MD, FACC, FASE, who are two of the few board-certified cardiologist lipidologists in New Hampshire. Lynn Scott, APRN, MS, and Kristine Ziemba, MSN, FNP-BC, CLS, serve as the Center's Associate Clinical Directors and are board certified as Clinical Lipid Specialists.

We treat patients with all risk factors for heart disease:
  • Cholesterol

Why choose CMC

Individualized treatment plans

Your initial visit to the Cholesterol Management Center includes:

  • Complete medical history
  • Physical exam
  • Complete cholesterol profile
  • Exercise assessment
  • Dietary evaluation
In some cases, additional blood levels will be measured and evaluated, which helps the Cholesterol Management Center team to more precisely determine your overall cardiac risk status.

An individualized diet, exercise and lifestyle plan may be enough to control your cholesterol levels. In some cases, medications may be part of the plan to normalize your cholesterol values.

Ongoing Cholesterol Management

During follow up visits, we update your medical history and perform a brief physical. Lab work is done on site and results are immediately available. The Cholesterol Management Center team will discuss your new lipid profile, other needed lab work, and recommend your plan going forward. You also will have a follow up discussion with the dietitian and review your exercise program.

patient story

Controlling your Cholesterol

David Betz admits managing his cholesterol “should have been a priority a long time ago, but I pushed it off and kept saying I was going to manage it with diet and exercise.” The wakeup call was a heart attack 13 years ago. “I made a stronger effort with exercise and diet and started taking medication.” Today, David’s cholesterol is under control and he no longer goes to the cholesterol clinic. He’s also become a runner and, thanks to the encouragement of his exercise instructor, Denise Houseman at CMC’s Cardiac Rehabilitation and Wellness Program, now has two half marathons under his belt.

That is the question

To Supplement or Not to Supplement

Many patients struggle to lower their cholesterol, despite taking prescription medications. Others prefer a natural alternative.
