CardioMEMS

Heart Failure

The CardioMEMS™ Heart Failure System is a state-of-the-art monitoring system that can predict when a patient’s heart failure symptoms are about to worsen. The system’s small, implanted sensor measures pulmonary artery (PA) pressure—an early indicator of an impending heart failure event. If there is a spike in PA pressure, the system alerts the patient’s heart failure nurse who can then adjust medications and prevent worsening symptoms and hospitalization.

Heart failure occurs when the heart is unable to pump enough blood to meet the body's demands. More than 5.1 million Americans have heart failure. They are frequently hospitalized, have a reduced quality of life and face a higher risk of death.

Catholic Medical Center was the first hospital in northern New England to offer CardioMEMS™ and is the top implanting site in New England.
