Hunter James Lucas was one of the approximately 1,000 babies born at Catholic Medical Center this year. He arrived on October 22, 2024, welcomed by his mom, Sara, his dad, Adam, and his big brother, Noah (7).

Sara’s labor and delivery were initially uneventful, but a few days after being discharged, she was readmitted with preeclampsia. Shortly after, Hunter was also readmitted for jaundice.

During their time at The Mom’s Place, Sara was deeply impressed by the couplet model of care, which focuses on keeping mothers and babies together as much as possible. Reflecting on her 10-day stay, Sara described it as a healing experience, saying, “I was part of the decision-making process and felt my input was valued, respected, and listened to.”

Adam echoed her sentiments, adding, “The care we received here is very genuine. The staff treat this as more than just a job—they truly want to be here.”

Even after baby Hunter was officially discharged, The Mom’s Place allowed him to stay with Sara, giving her time to recover and bond with her baby until she was ready to go home on October 30, 2024.

Hunter’s story is a testament to Catholic Medical Center’s commitment to providing exceptional care for moms and babies, creating an environment where families feel supported, respected and empowered during life’s most precious moments.

The Mom’s Place and NICU & Family Suites deliver approximately 1,000 babies annually to mothers in the Greater Manchester community and beyond. At CMC, delivering babies and caring for their families has been a cornerstone of our mission for 130 years and will continue to be for many more.
