It is gratifying to have scored in the top quarter of hospitals nationally in the newly-released CMS star ratings system; however, we at CMC share the concerns of many hospitals, industry groups, and elected officials that this system is flawed. The methodology for measuring hospitals’ overall quality does not fairly account for many complicating factors, including whether a hospital cares for a predominately poor or otherwise underserved population as is the case in many of the communities we serve. At CMC, we are dedicated to providing health, healing, and hope to all and to maintaining a standard of compassionate excellence. While we believe our initial rating reflects this, we want to ensure that healthcare consumers are making their choices based on accurate information compiled on a level playing field.
