"Healing Body and Spirit” by Manchester Photographer Matthew Lomanno
Exhibit Opening—Wed, Sep 16, 2015, 4:00–6:30 PM
CMC will display an exhibit by photographer Matthew Lomanno, produced and published by Parable Magazine, which explores spirituality in Catholic faith-based hospitals in New Hampshire.
Lomanno captures spiritual healing in many forms in these works—from a brief moment of anxiety about a routine test to saying goodbye to preterm twins leaving the CMC Special Care Nursery.
“Speaking to doctors, nursing staff, administration, and most importantly, the patients of these Catholic hospitals it is clear that there is a vigilant recognition of and practice in treating patients not merely as bodies, but as persons,” said Lomanno who partnered with the Diocese of Manchester on the project.
Lomanno’s journalistic style of black and white photos captures the bond between providers and patients in many settings: outpatient rehabilitation, community clinics, emergency department and the electrophysiology lab. This emotional and thought-provoking exhibit invites viewers to share in these personal, private, and spiritual moments.
In an age of great technological advancement, Lomanno set out to explore compassion in an age and environment that is rich in technology. “The act of healing, however, is not merely technological, but rather human and indeed divine,” said Lomanno.
CMC’s mission embraces this balance of high tech/high touch. It promises to provide health, healing and hope in a manner that offers innovative high quality services, compassion and respect for the human dignity of every individual who seeks or needs care as part of its healing ministry.
An opening reception is scheduled for September 16, 2015, 4:00–6:30 PM with refreshments in the Level C Atrium at CMC, 100 McGregor Street Manchester, 03102. The exhibit will be on display through the end of December 2015 and then travel to St. Joseph’s Hospital in Nashua.
