Advanced Treatment of Heart Arrhythmias
Heart arrhythmias — when the electrical impulses in your heart cause it to beat too fast, too slow or irregularly — can be bothersome or a cause for concern, depending on the type of arrhythmia. You may experience a racing or slow heartbeat, be short of breath, feel dizzy or lightheaded, or faint. An electrophysiology evaluation can determine the cause of your symptoms. If your heart arrhythmia symptoms are frequent and cannot be controlled with medication, you may need an ablation procedure or an implanted device to better control your arrhythmia.

The electrophysiologists at the New England Heart and Vascular Institute offer comprehensive electrophysiology services and perform a high volume of procedures each year. They use state-of-the-art digital fluoroscopy to gain high-resolution, multi-dimensional digital images of the heart to assess and treat arrhythmia problems. Advanced mapping systems of the heart’s structure and operation allow them to perform the latest electrophysiology procedures in less time and with reduced radiation exposure to patients and medical staff.

Comprehensive Electrophysiology Services
Electrophysiology services at the New England Heart and Vascular Institute include:
  • Arrhythmia diagnosis and risk assessment
  • Radiofrequency ablation to control arrhythmias: atrial fibrillation, atrial flutter, atrial tachycardia, supraventricular tachycardia, ventricular tachycardia
  • Implantation of a pacemaker, defibrillator, or biventricular defibrillator
  • Follow-up of implanted devices

Ablation can improve heart arrhythmias and their symptoms, reduce medications needed to control arrhythmias and minimize episodes of dangerous heart rhythms and defibrillator shocks. The electrophysiologists at the New England Heart and Vascular Institute have extensive experience in performing ablation procedures to improve patients’ quality of life.
