Catholic Medical Center (CMC) and Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH), along with Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital, Partners Community Physicians Organization and Massachusetts Eye and Ear have signed a letter of intent to explore developing a multi-service medical office facility at the new Tuscan Village in Salem, NH.

This proposed facility is expected to be a welcome amenity along Route 28, where the mixed-use development is being built on the site of the former Rockingham Park. The proposal represents the hospitals’ commitment to improving access to high-quality health care to the greater Salem community.

Salem is one of the most densely populated parts of the state, “yet many residents wind up traveling significant distances for both routine and advanced medical care,” says Joseph Pepe, MD, president and CEO of CMC. “By working together, we can offer comprehensive care in a more convenient location. I commend Joe Faro for having this kind of transformational vision for Salem and for including world-class health care in that plan.”

Over the next few months, the organizations will complete their due diligence in exploring which specialty services would best meet the needs of the community. For instance, CMC will offer the services of the New England Heart and Vascular Institute. CMC and the MGH have been engaged in a successful clinical affiliation in advanced heart care since August 2016.

“We are excited to be exploring this opportunity with CMC and, understanding the potential it offers, to extend access to highly specialized medical expertise in the Salem community,” says Peter L. Slavin, MD, president of the MGH. “This collaboration speaks to our shared dedication to providing the best level of care to patients.”

Developer Joe Faro says, “Tuscan Village will be a new, vibrant community for Salem, offering a unique place to live, work, and play. Having a world-class health care facility on-site is essential so collaborating with CMC, Mass General and other excellent hospitals and providers makes perfect sense. Not only will Tuscan Village benefit from these high-quality healthcare services, but so will all of southern New Hampshire.”
