Respiratory Services
Helping You Breathe More Easily
Most
people take breathing for granted. But if you are having trouble breathing
because of chronic lung problems such as asthma, bronchitis, or
emphysema, or are having breathing issues due to a heart condition, cystic
fibrosis, lung cancer, AIDS or a sleep disorder, breathing can be a major
accomplishment.
Catholic Medical Center’s
Respiratory Therapy team combines its refined clinical skills with the latest
technology to provide a wide range of specialty respiratory services to
patients of all ages in critical, emergency, inpatient and outpatient settings.
We workin
conjunction with the neurophysiology lab, pulmonary function lab and the New England Sleep Center
at CMC to offer a full complement of inpatient and outpatient diagnostic
services. State-of-the-art diagnostic pulmonary function equipment allows us to
perform screening spirometry and complete pulmonary function studies using body
plethysmography in a warm and friendly environment.
The
goal of our respiratory diagnostic testing and treatment is to have you
breathing more easily. You can access outpatient diagnostic testing, as well as
24-hour in-hospital respiratory care, at CMC.
Range of Treatment Options
Depending
on your diagnosis, your treatment could include any of the following:
- Oxygen administration to assist with
breathing
- Mechanical ventilation if you cannot breathe
adequately on your own
- Therapies to help recover lung function
- Aerosol medications to alleviate breathing
problems and to prevent respiratory infections
- Rehabilitation activities, such as
low-impact aerobic exercises to improve chronic lung
problems
- Participating in a smoking cessation program
to improve lung function
