Cardiothoracic Surgical Associates was established in 1986 to provide the finest cardiac and vascular surgical care for residents of the Northern New England region. We strongly believe that practice makes perfect and each surgeon in our group has personally performed at least 3,000 heart surgeries.

We believe that patients have the right to expect a high level of proficiency from the physicians who provide their care. Furthermore, we are the surgeons dedicated to providing personal attention and concern for each patient as an individual with unique needs. After a careful assessment of a patient's condition and consultation with referring physicians, we will offer a plan for care. This plan is carefully explained to the patient and family, in such detail as to instill confidence, to ease anxiety, and to increase understanding. We believe that communication among those involved in a patient's care is necessary to produce a successful outcome. Personal attention is a hallmark of the care we provide.

If your physician feels that you have a need for open-heart surgery, upon your visit to our group, you will need further evaluation for a suspected cardiac condition. You may be referred for diagnostic testing and a cardiac surgeon will fully explain your condition and answer any questions you may have. The surgeons work together closely as a team. Each patient is evaluated on an individual basis, and is assured of receiving the benefits of an extensive pool of talent, including cardiac anesthesiologists, cardiologists and nurse practitioners. All three of the surgeons are involved with your care and they are in constant communication with one another and your referring physician, resulting in a cohesive and systematic plan for care. The surgeons are all thoroughly trained and experienced in the surgical treatment of congenital and acquired adult conditions of the heart. In addition, they are trained to diagnose and treat surgical conditions of the chest, the lungs, the esophagus, and the major blood vessels of the body. They have expertise in cancerous as well as non-cancerous conditions of the chest. In addition, they are trained to deal with life-threatening injuries to the chest.
