St. Peter’s Home SchoolEffective July 1, 2006 the Sisters of Charity of St. Hyacinthe and CMC Healthcare System officially announced the affiliation of St. Peter’s Home School with Catholic Medical Center in accordance with civil and canon law. With the approval of the Bishops of the Diocese of Manchester and the Diocese of St. Hyacinthe as well as the approval of Pope Benedict XVI, these two organizations of similar origins and missions, officially partnered. Notre Dame Hospital, the predecessor of Catholic Medical Center, and St. Peter’s Home School were both founded by the Sisters of Charity of St. Hyacinthe at the invitation of Monsignor Pierre Hevey, Pastor of Ste. Marie Parish.
For many years, Notre Dame Hospital and St. Peter’s Home were organized under one corporation. Founded by Monsignor Pierre Hevey in 1902, St. Peter’s Home School operated as an orphanage until 1950. In 1950, it became a boarding school for nearly 250 area boys and girls. In 1967, St. Peter’s Home School became a daycare facility. Sister Florence Therrien, Director, came to St. Peter’s Home School in 1969. In 1967, St. Peter’s Home School had 5 enrollees. Today, nearly 309 children ages 6 weeks to 6 years attend full time.
