Catholic Medical Center sits atop a hill on the west side of Manchester, NH. In June 2004, CMC completed a 72,000 square-foot building expansion. Catholic Medical Center used modest hospital reserves, a tax-exempt bond issue and fund raising to fund the majority of the new addition. In October 2004, CMC accomplished its first ever capital campaign, Building a New Era of Medicine–The Campaign for Catholic Medical Center, raising more than $2.5 million.

The hospital’s building expansion included an expanded emergency department, adding more than 2,000 square feet providing 6 additional emergency treatment rooms. The Intensive Care Unit expanded to nearly 15,000 square feet, a 40% space increase. This ICU expansion provides the necessary space to accommodate state-of-the-art equipment in patient rooms while still allowing enough room for family members to visit loved ones. The increase in space also provides more comfortable family waiting areas, private consultation areas and conveniences for family members, such as a kitchen area, microwave and showers as well as a laptop portal.

The expansion included a new home for the New England Heart Institute of Catholic Medical Center, a cardiac hospital-within-a-hospital. A rooftop helipad allows for incoming transport of the most critically ill cardiac patients from the region. Additionally, the expansion allowed for new technology in Diagnostic Imaging such as the purchase of a 64-Slice CT Scanner.

In June 2006, CMC broke ground on its next phase of growth. Currently a more than 50,000 square foot medical office building, 750-car parking facility with attached pedestrian walkway are being constructed across the street from the hospital. Within the hospital walls, ten state-of-the-art operating suites are also under construction along with new peri- and post-operative area. Projects are expected to be completed in 2007.
