At Catholic Medical Center, we provide inpatient and outpatient endoscopy services which include a variety of conditions dealing with the gastrointestinal (GI) tract as well as pulmonary. Our highly skilled staff takes pride in promoting an atmosphere that is private, empathetic, safe and comfortable while delivering comprehensive care. Our staff acts as patient advocates to meet the individual psychosocial, physical and cultural needs while continuously providing top quality care.

We are dedicated to providing the highest standards of care to meet all of our patients’ endoscopy needs and perform diagnostic and well as therapeutic procedures. The following are procedures we perform in our unit:

Colonoscopy: This procedure is performed to detect growths in the large intestine. These growths are called polyps and sometimes can lead to cancer. If polyps are found they can easily and painlessly be removed during this procedure. Anyone who is at least 50 years old should have a regular colorectal screening. It should be done earlier if there is a family history of colon cancer. If detected early, colon cancer is one of the few kinds of cancer that doctors can prevent.

Gastroscopy: This procedure looks into the esophagus and stomach to detect ulcers, redness or irritation of the tissue. Patients who have persistent symptoms of heartburn or Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD) will have this procedure performed to detect its severity and for the presence of changes in the lining of the esophagus which is a condition called Barrett’s esophagus.

Barrx: New state-of-the-art procedure that removes the abnormal lining from the esophagus of patients diagnosed with Barrett’s esophagus.

Esophageal Manometry Motility Study: This study measures the strength and coordination of the muscular esophageal activity as well as the band of muscles at the bottom of the esophagus.

Esophageal 24-hour pH Study: This study examines what happens in the patient’s lower esophagus when they feel the symptoms of heartburn or GERD.

ERCP (Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangiopancreatography): This procedure allows the physician to look into the biliary and pancreatic ducts and remove stones or insert stents to remove any obstruction.

Bronchoscopy: This procedure allows the physician to look into the trachea and the lungs to identify, evaluate and diagnose various respiratory conditions and diseases.
