Thank you very much for your interest in volunteer opportunities at Catholic Medical Center. We are very proud of the hundreds of volunteers who provide time, talent and that "special touch" for the patients, visitors, staff and physicians of Catholic Medical Center. Our volunteers are truly partners in caring.
These are the steps you will need to complete to become a Catholic Medical Center volunteer:
1. Application and ReferencesEvery prospective volunteer must complete an "Application for Volunteer Service" and two "Reference Forms". Please complete these as indicated and submit them to the Catholic Medical Center Volunteer Resources Department.
Incomplete applications will not be accepted. We will send the reference forms to the two individuals you have listed on your application form.

InterviewOnce we have received and accepted your two satisfactory references, you will be contacted to set a time for an interview with the Director of the Volunteer Resources Department. During the interview, you and the Director will discuss your interests and preferences in volunteer opportunities. Every effort will be made to match your preferences with existing openings in our volunteer program. An additional interview with your potential supervisor may also be required. The supervisor will review the duties of the assignment with you, to give you an overview of the department, and will introduce you to other volunteers and staff members in the department. This will give both you and the supervisor a chance to evaluate whether this volunteer assignment is right for you. Once a decision has been made, you will be asked to discuss a starting date and schedule with your supervisor.
3. Health Screening
All volunteers must comply with hospital infection control and health screening standards. Therefore, after the interview, you will be asked to book health screening appointments with our Employee Health Department. You will also be given health screening paperwork to complete and bring with you at the time of your appointment, when you'll meet with our Employee Health nurse to discuss your potential volunteer assignment. Additionally, two Tuberculosis tests are required for all volunteers. These tests and appointments are provided at no cost to the volunteer. Your first TB test will be given when you meet with the nurse, then she will give you another appointment for completion of the second TB test. Additional tests may be necessary according to the assignment.
4. Orientation
You will also be asked to complete a "New Volunteer Orientation." This orientation provides you with the basics of volunteering; what to wear, where to park, where to sign in and out, as well as important information about policies and procedures.
After completion of these steps you may begin volunteer service.
